Ladies and Gentlemen:

One big unanswered question remains, at least so far as I'm aware:

Given the 64-bit Java 8 JVM, what are the maximum values of -Xms and
-Xmx that the JVM is actually capable of using?

I ask this in particular because the Tomcat server's JVM job is running
with -Xms3096m -Xmx5120m, and yet the "Heap used at start" in the GC
table has not exceeded 2114.0M in the last 300 GC cycles.
