I prefer PCML.

Take a look at 
https://github.com/fallingrock/pcmltools/tree/master/pcmltools/src/net/fallingrock/pcmltools

I started a project that would create a ProgramCallDocument object from 
a program that had the PCML compiled into it.

This would allow you to make PCML calls without having to code the PCML 
by hand.

It has an example of calling the QBNRPGII api using PCML.
