I'm guessing, from the lack of response to my question about resetting 
the error status without reopening the file, that I'm stuck with a reopen.

Turned out that wasn't as painful as I'd feared (if anything, less 
painful than doing it in RPG!), and I've now got it working. For some 
reason, the total number of records isn't showing up, but I'm sure I can 
  fix that.
