Incidentally, the current behavior of the splash screen is as follows: It comes up with no keyboard lock, but also no input-capable fields (and we have no plans to add any). Without terminal-level typeahead: if a user presses a non-AID key, it causes the usual terminal error, which goes away when the next screen comes up, while if the user presses an AID key, the keyboard locks, but the AID key is ignored. With terminal-level typeahead: any key (AID or non-AID) the user presses gets processed normally when the next screen comes up.
