Git comes from the UNIX world, which has no notion of files-with-members. Hence git relies on the IFS exclusively. I think modern compilers can be instructed to read from the IFS, but this mandates more automation. I presume it's not as easy as putting 14 in front of a source member but I have never bothered with that feature myself. I like the peculiarities of the system, but then I'm a hobbyist and not a professional user. :wq!
