Accessing application controls from COM

I have created a COM server which is being used by my client
application to do data processing etc.

The application sets up the environment – panels, buttons,
scrollbars and charts – and creates the main object which is
defined in the COM. What I'm trying to do is manipulate these
controls from the COM. For example, I need to continually re-plot
the chart, but I can't do that unless I have a handle on the actual
object. I would prefer to have the chart as part of the COM, but
then I can't attach it to the panel on the client side.

I feel like I must be missing something obvious, but as I'm new to
COM I don't see how I can get round this.

Any help or resources to where I can find it would be great!
