Why? Delphi _could_ become a good tool again. Maybe we should be glad that
Borland sells it, because they seem not to have cared a lot anymore after
the really big boom in the nineties?!
Delphi 5 was the last really usable version. Everything after it had no big
improvements worth an upgrade. Let alone the versions that were unusable
unto their first update pack.
Errors that I have in my Delphi 3 and 4 (which I own) have not been removed
until Delphi 5, 6, 7 and 8 (to which I have or had access due to my work) -
which includes frequent crashes while working (no, I doubt it is my style of
programming ;-). That's not the way you treat your customers and keep them
happy.
So I just see selling the IDEs as a positive step because Borland apparently
did not care much for them anyways - release cycles being more important
than quality.
Sorry for the rant, but this is just my impression. And although I finally
would have the money to buy it (3 is a full version 4 is an EDU version), I
will not pay a single cent until the bad bugs are gone and I get a *usable*
and *fast* Delphi version offered again. Delphi was cool, let's hope it will
be cool again ...
Currently I am just using other tools instead and spending my money for
those ...
Cheers,
Oliver
