Differences between PDA & smartphone images?

Windows mobile / smartphone 2005.
We have been collecting data via pocket PC. The images and data are sent 
back to our servers and added to our MYSql database.
We have now converted the app to run on smartphone. The only changes
being 
to the smartphone interface. When the smartphone image data is
displayed in 
our delphi application we are getting an error saying image
invalid(JVDBImage).
When we browse the smartphone image data through our asp website the both 
PDA & smartphone images display okay.
We can see the image okay in Navicat (our MYSql utility)

The only difference I can see is when I view the downloaded images via 
explorer set to detailed view I get the following additional information 
from the images from the smartphone  (Date Picture taken & Dimensions).

My thoughts are that some extra data is stored within the smartphone
images. 
If this is correct how do I remove this extra data.

Any other help appreciated.
