Policies of kylixgroup
======================
* Don't send messages like:
- Off-topics: chain letters, virus alerts, etc.
- Advertisements (contact the moderator if you wish to post an ad).
- Offers, requests or apologies of cracks, warez, serials or any
other form of software piracy.
- Messages of the kind "I want it" and "Me too" when somebody offers a
code/component/library/etc. in the forum (please send the request
directly to the email address of the offerer, not to the forum).
- Messages of the kind "Where can I find...?". We have a forum
specially dedicated to search/recommend components, libraries,
ActiveX objects, tutorials, utilities, etc.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/components
To subscribe to the Software Components forum:
. [email protected]
- Messages about administrative matters of this forum (please send
those messages to the moderator).
- Messages requesting ready-made applications, or that we teach
you programming, or that we do your (home)work for you, or that the
forum supports you in your project or things like that. This is not
the kind of help the forum gives. It is meant for doubts and
punctual problems.
* Watch the format of the messages:
- Provide a representantive subject line in new messages.
- Don't modify the subject line when replying to a message.
- Use plain text (not rich text or HTML). I know this restriction is
bothersome, but messages in plain text are more readable in all
email clients and webmail services, Yahoo! Groups doesn't place
their bothersome graphics advertisements there, and they are more
compact (vital for those with poor Internet conections and who
sometimes get many email messages per day).
- Don't write all in capital letters (it looks like you are shouting).
- Don't send urgent messages or messages with a priority other than
normal. All forum members and all messages have the same priority.
* Other considerations about the messages:
- Read your message in loud voice before posting, and think if someone
who doesn't know what you are up to would understand what you are
asking.
- Don't ask for a forum member in particular to answer your question
so you don't compromise someone who has no obligation to answer you
and you don't reject the help others could give you. For example:
WRONG: Thanks John. Now, could you tell me how can I...?
RIGHT: Thanks John. Now, how can I...?
- Be polite and kind in your messages, and always try to interpret the
best of the intentions in the messages of others.
- Don't send many questions in a single message unless they are
closely related. Otherwise, send a single question per message (each
with its own representative subject).
- Don't send the same question more than three times in total, or more
than twice in the last seven days.
- Sometimes the messages take a long while in appearing in the forum.
Be patient and allow at least 24 hours before resending the message.
* Due to viruses and other reasons, attachments are not permitted. If
you have an archive to share, contact the petitioner directly about
sending the archive to his/her email address, or send a link to the
resource on the Internet, or upload the archive to the Files section
of the forum (see instructions below).
* We are not fortune tellers. If you want help, give details. Include
enough data about your problem, like for example, as may apply:
- Kylix version and Update Pack
- Linux distribution and kernel version
- Database type you are accessing (MySQL, Interbase, etc.), version
and data access components used (dbExpress, etc.)
- Sample of source code where the error occurs (enough to reproduce
the problem with minimum effort if possible)
- Exact place where the error occurs (line of code)
- Exact text of the error message
- Moment when the error occurs (design time, compilation time, or
runtime, plus any other circumstance that should be mentioned).
* This is a forum for exchanging knowledge and experience about Kylix
programming, not "The <Your name> Support Group". Please don't bombard
the forum with questions. Try to moderate yourself and solve more
problems by yourself before asking for help.

We are more than 140 members in the forum, but we are still quite a few.
It's important that the forum grows in members, since more members mean
more quantity and quality of answers. For this reason I'd like to ask
you to invite friends, acquaintances, workmates and colleagues to join
the forum.
This forum and mailing list service is provided for free by Yahoo!
Groups (formerly eGroups) and sometimes they include a little ad in each
message, but they don't spam. Should you have any problem with this
forum, please don't hesitate to contact us.
