I'm no expert on X, but I think that many of the differences between CLX under 
Linux and CLX under Windows are due to the way that the X Server works, and 
it may be that different configurations of X will cause subtle changes in the 
way that CLX behaves.

As for VCL, there are quite large differences between CLX and VCL even on 
Windows from what I can tell.

One thing I have experienced is that scanline operations on Linux are very 
slow.  It seems that the image is copied back from the X server before a 
scanline operation is allowed.  I tried all of the windows dodges for 
increasing performance of scaline, but none of them gave satisfactory 
results, and eventually I settled on simply using a QImage to handle high 
speed screen updates.
