Kylix3 and libc 2.3.1

I'm noticing some strange quirks when using Kylix 3 on a machine that was 
recently updated to Mandrake 9.1.  When my application is run in the IDE, 
calls to libc.system return 0, but nothing actually happens.

When run outside of the IDE however, the code executes as I would expect.

Curiously, if I install Kylix2 on this machine, the same code works just fine 
inside the IDE.

Has anyone else experienced strange behaviour when using Kylix3 under newer 
linux builds?  Any clues as to what I might try in hopes of resolving this?  
It's annoying from a debugging POV.
