I already thought about this, but there's the language thing... and as i'm 
"new" to Linux, can I be sure of ifconfig's output thruogh the "years" to 
come? Not a joke.

This is actually what I was looking for. Actually, I scrolled down the whole 
Libc wrapper to see if there was something suitable but found nothing, so I 
guessed somebody could give me a clue of the basic functions to do that. 
Anyway, I think I'll go through its source code.
