Updating TQuery to TADOQuery

I'm updating some older code to replace the BDE with ADO and am having a few
TADOQuery problems.
First and foremost, what is the ADO equivalent of
varname:=Query1.FieldByName('name').text;
It should be simple but the ADO help in D5 is a bit obtuse for me.
