Can anyone suggest or point in the right direction??

I write medical analysis software and I want to look at using some of
the graphic/game technology advances for an idea I have...

I come from a Business/Database programming background so this is
totally new to me other than I use it as we all do without knowing.

The question is there seems to be 2 main ways to go DirectX and OpenGL
(or are they complimentry?) I basically want some powerful graphics
and quite a bit of animation (dynamic that is).

So should I go down the DirectX or the OpenGL path or both for my
research? Also any good websites and book recomendations? or a great
delphi list?

Essentially I want to use some of this game technology for business
programming.

Cheers

Luke
