Hello Luke, If you plan on porting your project to other platforms, then OpenGL is a great way to go (Jacob's Delphi Developer Guide to OpenGL is an excellent primer), but it requires you to do a lot of geometry; if all you will do will be based on rectangular solids, spheres, and onics, then you'll be set. Direct3D is a richer environment, with environmental variables that are much easier to work with. The best approach, however (especially if you want to avoid tesselating anything beyond simple solids), for a exploring developer, would be to use a high level library that conceptualize the low-level systems; share your findings !
