There aren't too many other options. I thought about checking for a ccTLD,
but even that can be a problem.

For example, domain.fr is a valid form of domain, but so are domain.com.fr,
domain.asso.fr and domain.tm.fr, so even if you have a ccTLD, the 2nd level
domain isn't necessarily valid.

In theory, all second level domains under com, net, org, tv and info are
valid. All 3rd level domains under name and uk too. Other than that, you'll
have to do the repeated DNS lookups as I described previously.
