I've seen some MS Visual FoxPro files that are pretty sneaky.  The first byte of the file will be a hex 30 if it is VFP.  You might see if someone has a recent VFP that you can try to open the file with.  If it is a VFP file, then this page might be illuminating: <http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/fox7help/html/contable_file_structure_lpdbfrp.asp>.

However, VFP is only allowed 255 fields, according to the specification.  I don't know whether that can be exceeded gracefully or not.  Hope this helps!
