Randall and Benno,

Thanks for the info.  The user (not his network support folks), may have 
tracked down the problem.  

Apparently, the control file (@S@), was being deleted overnight by some 
type of file maint program (unsure how exactly).  So, first thing in the 
morning it would throw an error 33.  After they restarted the program, 
it would run fine all day.  It was only occuring when first started in 
the morning.
