New delphi versions will probably loose support and also there is nobody to knock on the door in case of problems. Mail through sourceforge to the projectmaintainer bounces or is not answered. > FlashFiler for instance is especially useful when you want a more > sophisticated client-server database or when DBase compatibility is not > an issue. Flashfiler was extremely buggy (I think that is one of the problems of TurboPower before they stopped). Also flashfiler lacks a lot of functionality a client server database needs. I discussed the concept of flash filer as an ad on for Topaz with Alfred about 2 years ago. His answer was that Topaz is good for what it does, but building a server around it would be a waist of time. I now agree with him. Topaz is great for single user apps and can be used for apps in small muli-user environments. Is has the same problems as all databases on this concept (M$-access, Flash-filer, dbase, Advantage, Apollo etc). You can't guarantee data integrity of your database. For me Topaz is still an option. I use it in single user apps, and when I need dos clients (yes they are still build today :) ). As soon as I expect it to be multi user (now or future) I choose Interbase open edition of firebird as the database engine. In that case Topaz comes in for local caching of data, and for Gui stuff (I cache my data and connect my GUI to Topaz datasets).
