To be blunt because the Delphi 5 'Standard' version was sold at a silly
price to compete with Visual Basic Learning Edition... It was never
intended for anyone to do any serious work... In fact the license
prevents you from using it for any commercial purpose.

Borland specifically removed the most obvious and fundamental of the
Delphi features (the database stuff) to keep a nice wide gap between
this cheap/student version and the Professional version.
