The installer did ask which build environment I would be using, but it didn’t seem to impact anything. The first thing I tried was the interactive environment within the IDE, but it failed during the compile because it was trying to use rc.exe from Visual C++.

Is there an environment variable or settings file that impacts which of the JAM files is supposed to be used?

Thanks,

Rob

Thanks for taking the time to write up your experience. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I haven't personally tested the release on Windows yet so I'll give it a try tonight or tomorrow and see how my experience compares to yours. It has certainly been my experience in the past that it's necessary to set the LIB, INCLUDE, and PATH vars (which isn't mentioned on the Download page), but I've never had to rename .jam files.

I found getting started with Open Dylan in Windows a bit more difficult than doing so on Mac OS X was, so I write this up today.

This was all on a Windows 8 machine, but Windows 7 should work exactly the same. There's nothing specific to 8 here.

Attached as a text file, mostly because I wrote it in Notepad.

Hope someone else finds this useful.

Thanks,

Rob
