In Visual Studio:

-the first character is considered two columns. When the cursor is
placed before the character, you have to hit the right arrow button
twice to move beyond the character. The first button press moves the
cursor to the right of the k. The second button press is absorbed
without moving the cursor, but incrementing the column count.
-the second character is considered two columns. A single press of the
right arrow button moves the cursor to the right of the character and
increments the column count by 2.

In Eclipse:

-the first character is considered two columns. A single press of the
right arrow button moves the cursor from the left of the glyph to the
right and increments the column count by 2.
-the second character is silently removed from the file by Eclipse.
