Something strange is happening.  Something is causing a bunch of apache
processes to spawn and not die.  I'm not sure if it is an attack or what.

Stopping and restarting apache gets things back to normal... but it is not
clear if the system has been hacked or what.

I've been looking around for other signs of intrusion, but don't see
anything.
