And what do you get with SmartEiffel when using the "." trick?
(I'm under Windows so I cannot really try.)

Right now, I just postprocess the SmartEiffel generated 
<executable>.make to force it into the proper form. I could hardcode the 
paths in the xace file, but since I install things in non-standard 
locations, it certainly wouldn't be portable

I'm working on a SmartEiffel patch that should fix this, but it would be 
a Unix only kind of thing, so I'm not sure if the SmartEiffel people 
will accept it.
