Hi Colin, thanks for replying.

The short answer to your question is no, i have not managed to run the 
EPOM example yet.

The long answer is ...

After sending my message I persevered with the manual approach. I was 
going to use EPOM with EiffelStore rather than ECLI, but the EPOM 
example's ADAPTER classes seem to be incomplete for EiffelStore. The 
EPOM documentation warns that ECLI is better supported, so I downloaded 
ECLI.

The ECLI instructions were explicit about what geant commands to run, 
so I did this. This took some time, as I had to define several 
environment variables (ISE_EIFFEL=C:\Eiffel54, GOBO_EIFFEL=ise, etc.), 
and I had to add some stuff to the path and INCLUDE variables for 
Microsoft C (it couldn't find nmake, then it couldn't find a dll, then 
it couldn't find some include files). Luckily I spent 8 years as a C 
programmer until 1996, otherwise I wouldn't have had a clue what to do! 
It compiled in the end, although I am still concerned about the fact 
that I told it to use Microsoft C, whereas EiffelStudio is using 
Borland C which wasn't an option for ECLI. Also, the final step for 
ECLI was to do a geant to build the ECLI examples, but it didn't work. 
I may have been running it from the wrong directory, as the 
instructions for the ECLI examples were not explicit on that point.

I then went back to EiffelStudio and started compiling and adding 
clusters again. It went well. I finally got through the "unknown class" 
errors, but then I got errors in compilation due to features on an ECLI 
CURSOR class not being visible to clients. I couldn't see why, as the 
features in question had unqualified export. I commented out the client 
code, just to get it compiling, but encountered several client classes 
with the same problem. It was time to go home, but just before leaving 
work I noticed that the CURSOR class has several export NONE 
declarations at the top. I need to read up on Eiffel's 'export' 
keyword; don't know whether these would be causing the problem.

So that's as far as I've gone so far.
