Okay, it works.

Note that I still had to add a semi-colon to the end of every 
statement. I tested with SE and ISE, with and without assertions, and 
in every case an additional semi-colon was tacked onto the end; no 
problem for the C compiler.

You might want to consider an additional rule that says, "If the line 
of C code doesn't end in a semi-colon, append a semi-colon." This will 
allow GEC to work with legacy code without change.
