Frankly, I would say no because this is plain Unix stuff.
Even if I am always working on Unix, it would be better to have that
script in Eiffel so that it could work on windows too.
Furthermore, we already have some internals unix scripts which are 
supposed to check that all examples of the tutorial are compilable.
