common_test fails when using longnames and previous log directories

The bug was introduced in 4e61b.  The new function does not handle the
case where the node name contains '.' character(s).  Since the sort is
slightly different, I didn't just create a patch to use sort_all_runs,
but maybe reversing the results of sort_all_runs would give the
desired results?
