Hi Anthony, Your patch nox/disambiguate-equal-binary has been rejected. After a long discussion, evaluating the arguments from the related mailing list discussions, the OTP Technical Board concluded to keep the current solution; and thus, to reject the patch, among others because the decision support has not changed since the (first) discussion on the erlang-questions list in May 2003. In other words, we would like to get rid of that issue as well, but we do not want to pay the prize. That is, we do not want to replace one inconsistency with another, thereby introducing a special case and syntax knowledge in the scanner.
