Since you bring this up, I think what I meant was that the OO aproach to 
development, as it is most often espoused, has no scientifically proven 
benefit over any other approach. So why is it promoted by the computer 
"science" establishment at the expense of every other approach?

OO, as in Smalltalk ect, is a proven technology, I'm not going to 
say whether it is necessarily a bad idea or not. In the form of C++, 
Java, I think that is case. I don't know enough about other approaches, 
e.g. Smalltalk, to completely dismiss it.
