this sounds like a good start.  don't worry about the code for doing
complex numbers and ratios as there are many ``free'' lisp (and dylan)
implementations of this code (e.g., cmu lisp and gwydion dylan).  as
far as names go, the main point is for the most oft-used names to be
short otherwise they should just be intuitive.  i'll think more about
