Okay, I created a PR backing out the two variants that I think you are saying are the most controversial. Plus I added some javadoc making it clearer what our current defaults are. If we want to improve consistency it would be nice to have it captured somewhere like what GROOVY-12152 attempts to do, but some other form is fine too, and I am more than happy for further discussion on this topic.
