Re: Logo redesign proposal

At the time I discovered Groovy many years ago I remember that the
old logo captured my attention emotionally because, to me, it
reflected a new way of thinking about what an improved Java
platform language might be.

The logo immediately made me think about the Hippie Movement, free
thinking, a fresh look at the world, and no boundaries.

The graphical style of the logo, to me, inherently brought those
phrases to mind and I thought that it was "cool" and definitely
worth a deep-dive investigation.

After I explored the language further I remember being repeatedly
amazed at the innovation I was seeing in the language.

What I found just reinforced the phrases "free thinking", "a fresh
look" and "no boundaries" that the old logo had initially
impressed upon me.

So, for these reasons, I too still like the older Groovy Logo; I
have no problems with it; It is still "cool" to me.

I'm not a graphic artist so I don't look at a logo as an exercise
in meeting rules related to jaggedness, line thickness, and other
such criteria.

In this case I look for a visual representation of the emotional
appeal of the language.

Nevertheless, there may be a need for a smaller icon-sized logo; I
will leave that for the community to decide on the need for such
an alternative in limited contexts.

If a discussion regarding a new logo is in worthy of our time at
this point then may I suggest that we take a step back and define
some requirements for what a new logo should convey.

Then we would at least have some scoring (testing) criteria for
any new logo proposals to be considered by the community.

Sorry, this is just my systems/software engineering background
again showing itself.

it is worth having a discussion, and your suggestion is a good
step on the way. I can see, that you have put thoughts into

colors, as I am really fond of the blue color in the current

I've designed and would like to propose an alternate logo for Groovy. It's a very nice programming

language that satisfies all of my gripes with Java, but the logo gave me a bit of pause when deciding

whether or not to learn it. Having spent some time with the language, the current logo is charming,

and definitely screams 'groovy!' but I don't feel it translates well into an icon (for things like

IDEs) and I feel it's also a bit jagged (the lines feel a bit too thick, for example.)

I've attached a PDF with my design. I can tweak it if you'd like, and I really don't mind criticism

(so long as it is constructive.) I like designing things, but I am by no means a professional designer.

I'm not sure what terms would be necessary for this to become the new project logo, but if anyone does,

please let me know. I also don't expect this to replace the project logo, since people tend to grow

attached to them and I myself have been frustrated at redesigns like this.
