ILC is still cool, including the venue in 2007 (Cambridge, UK).  I  
only went to one (2003, NYC), but I met all kinds of cool people  
whose names and thoughts were wrapped in print.  One of my happiest  
memories was sitting down at a table and having a friendly chat with  
John McCarthy.  When I think ILC I think "heritage."  When I look at  
other conferences like POPL/PLDI, I think "Where are we going?" but  
also "Maybe I missed the train."
