my concern is not really negative sizes, but using a negative position
is quite common.

for instance, you might want to draw a rectangle starting on { x = -10,
y = -10 } with size of { w = 50, h = 50 }.  blitting images also benefit
from the ability to start at a given negative coordinate.

of course negative sizes could affect drawing as well, but i don't know
the default SDL behavior in that case...
