I believe that Wesley is referring to some of the e-mail delivery options available via Google Apps: http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=77182 Their use case is an organization transitioning to Google Apps, with some users remaining on the old e-mail system; this allows mail to those users sent to the new address to be routed to the old e-mail system.
