I have successufully imported other svn projects from sourceforge.net, most
recently PolyML.  But I agree it is hard to pin down blame.  Maybe the
large size of the mlton repo plays a role.

That's what I ended up doing as a workaround, thanks.  I hope I'll be
able to update my tree incrementally with git svn fetch from
sourceforge.  If that breaks I'll report back.
