GSoC Proposal: MLton on RTEMS with a Build Toolchain

Hello MLton developers,

I'm Nathan Burgers, I've been doing undergraduate study under Dr. Lukasz
Ziarek at University at Buffalo getting MLton built with RTEMS for a few
months now, and we have been discussing ways of approaching real-time ML.

I've started work on an unimpressive Ant build generator that aims to act
essentially like a dumbed-down RTEMS package manager: downloading and
compiling RTEMS for different architectures. The idea here being this
generator is hosted online and you cURL the generated Ant which can build
any flavor of RTEMS you like.

I'm very interested in functional programming and have loved time-sensitive
computing ever since my days of writing little 2D-sprite renderers in asm
for my TI-84 back in high school.

I am looking forward to working with you in the future beyond Google Summer
of Code, and wish to see Standard-ML take hold in the niche market of soft
(or real!) real-time robotics. The possibilities for functional logic
programming and FRP in robotics I think are too cool to pass up.
