Meaningful to the JVM doesn't ensure that it's *easy* to use for a
programmer, especially now that Java1.5 has generics but won't see
Nice generics.  Indeed much of the mismatch seems to relate to loss of
static guarantees that the calling Java will do the right thing.

Maybe not.  Making it easy to upgrade from Java to Nice is still much
more important  :)
