I definitely agree with this sentiment - one of the things I sometimes think would be nice is to have the current syntax, in order to be accessible to Java programmers, and another syntax (cross between Haskell and Python, perhaps) for people who prefer that. Personally, I doubt I'd ever use the Java syntax, but if we could convert freely from one to the other, that would be okay. I have to say that for the Java syntax, I think 'let ... in.. ' sticks out like sore thumb. I think that's a feature for a more functional style syntax.
