Use bin_prot with the annotation `[@@deriving bin_io]`. Here's an example:
# utop
# require "ppx_bin_prot core";;
# open Core.Std;;
# type t =3D {a:int; b:string} [@@deriving bin_io];;
Instead of ppx_bin_prot, you might want to load ppx_jane, which loads all
of Jane Street's ppx extensions. Then you can use sexp, bin_prot, and many
other useful ones.
You're not alone in feeling documentation could be improved in the jane
street suite, as well as many other projects. Documentation takes a lot of
work, so unfortunately there's no easy way to resolve this. All I can
suggest is ask questions here, on Stack Exchange, or the main OCaml List.
