[0]Accidental Angel writes "[1]ActivePerl release 5.8.8.816 is out,
bringing the popular Windows distribution of Perl to parity with last
month's [2]5.8.8 source release. Good news all around for speed freaks,
too: According to the [3]release notes, the Mac OS X version is
apparently a [4]Universal Binary, and there's beta-level support for
64-bit Windows, Linux, and SPARC Solaris. So if you've got a shiny new
[5]Intel Mac or want x86_64/64-bit SPARC support, they've got you
covered."

[0]geoff writes "Just a short while ago, Slava Bizyayev died
unexpectedly. Slava contributed several modules to CPAN, including the
popular Apache::Dynagzip compression filter for mod_perl. Dan Hansen, a
close friend of Slava, wrote a memorial notice and asked that we share it
with the Perl community. As a close community, we deeply regret the
passing of our own. If you are interested in shepherding Slava's CPAN
work, please contact the module list at [email protected]."
