As you may know, Perl is now 20 years old. In lieu of buying her a beer
and waiting around for a year, I'm looking for interesting stories and
memories to collect and post on a Perl-related website with a very nice
and short domain name in the next couple of days.
Please send them to [email protected], along with a one sentence
biography.

Darn! It looks like the ActiveState team has beaten me to the punch,
releasing a new ActivePerl before I was able complete the new Strawberry
Perl.
This caught me totally off guard, because the last few Perl releases it's
taken a few weeks before the matching ActivePerl came out, so I thought I
might have a few days leeway.

Today I published the [0]Incomplete history of Perl as my birthday gift
to Perl. Users of git or mercurial can perform the initial clone now and
avoid the rush later:
git clone git://utsl.gen.nz/perl
(also available via HTTP at http://git.utsl.gen.nz/perl)
Note that the preparation of this history has involved many long toiling
hours of correlation of changelog information, searching for and
attempting to apply literally thousands of patches from p5p archives and
comparing them to the binary releases, c, etc. I believe it to be a
significant achievement into the restoration of the early revisions of
Perl. It certainly wouldn't have been possible without the support of my
employer, [1]Catalyst IT, and of course the wonderful revision toolkit
that is [2]Git.
