Today Tom "Spot" Callaway of RedHat [0] mailed perl5-porters to say:

Today, perl 5.10.0 went into Fedora rawhide, which will become Fedora
  9.

A few additional changes were committed with this release:

    * Fedora is now tracking all of its patches in patchlevel.h

    * The sitedir and sitearch directories are now located under
/usr/local, to make it very clear that files installed by CPAN
did not come from Fedora packages (they still work fine).

We got a tremendous amount of help from the perl 5 porters community,
especially Andy Armstrong, Nicholas Clark, and Rafael Garcia-Suarez.
Without your help, we would not have been able to meet the Fedora
  deadline.

The Fedora 9 beta release is scheduled for March 20, and the final
F-9 release is scheduled for April 29, 2008.

Thanks again for all of your help,

  ~spot

Cool. So all the swearing at Math::Pari and [1]staying up past midnight
on Saturday was worth it. However, I note that there is some irony that
of the three people named for their help, none actually use Fedora.

[0]htoug writes "We are pleased to announce the [1]Call for Papers for
the [2]YAPC Europe 2008 in Copenhagen, Denmark 13-15 August 2008.

The theme for this year's conference is "Beautiful Perl", which we hope
will inspire submissions on this and related topics.

Whether you have done beautiful things in Perl, you think Perl code is
beautiful in itself (or not!) or if Perl has helped you do beautiful
things, we would love to hear about it.

Although this is our main theme for the conference, it will not be the
only one, and as such we will also be accepting talks on topics on just
about any theme.

Please submit talk proposals via the conference web site until Sunday,
25th May 2008. A Call for Participation will follow in a few weeks."

A couple of years ago I started building feed aggregation sites (aka
"planets"[1]) using [0]Plagger. Once you've installed Plagger, it's
pretty simple to configure new planets.

Notice I say "once you've installed Plagger". Plagger is one of those
CPAN modules which installs about half of CPAN. The [1]CPAN dependencies
page currently gives you a 26% chance of successfully installing Plagger.
