I thought the golf list was set up precisely because long threads of
people doing nothing but announcing numbers was pretty far from fun for
those of who aren't that interested in "playing"?

Discussing the interesting approaches that let you get these numbers,
yes. Chanting an ever decreasing sequence of numbers, nope.
