Build error - DBD::Oracle, Oracle 11.2.0.1, 32-bit client, remote DB

I'm trying to build DBI and DBD::Oracle to run on a Linux server (2.6.18-274.7.1.el5) using the 11g (11.2.0.1) 32-bit client. The database resides on a remote server and I can get to it just fine using sqlplus.

No matter what I've tried, I cannot get the linking to complete successfully.

I've been successful in getting this to work in a similar environment but with a local DB.
