You've misunderstood me. I wasn't saying you have not installed sqlplus. I was saying you need to make sure you can run sqlplus before attempting to build DBD::Oracle. So sqlplus should be on your PATH or findable under LD_LIBRARY_PATH which you should set and export.

It is pointless trying to build DBD::Oracle if you cannot successfully run sqlplus - at best it will default to oracle 8.
