Does it still make a difference running it as 32-bit on a 64-bit machine.  I`ve strictly been trying it on 64 bit.

You know it’s vaguely coming back to me that I had to install several _devel packages as well as the lib packages when I last set up a linux server.

You may need the libstdc++-devel.x86_64 package...
