And it may actually be discussed in "Programming Perl" (which I can't
put my hand on at this precise moment).
It has also been a documented behavior of version objects for more than
6 years now. I realize that it is only relatively recently (two years
since 5.10.0) that version.pm has been in the core, but this is the very
first time that I am aware of that someone has fallen afoul of it.
ActiveState is apparently shipping a non-official package. Any time you
think you are doing something "clever" the odds are that you are
actually being stupid instead. This definitely falls into that category...
