All I can say is TITS (Try It To See).  Try transferring the font as 
binary and see if it works.

Most of my PDFs come from databases.  Because of this, I strive for 
readability rather than pretty.  Since almost anything can come back 
from a database, I tend to use the core fonts.

If you are not using the core fonts, you should consider:

1. Does everyone who would read this PDF have the font on their machine?

2. If not, can I legally embed the font in the PDF?

Otherwise, stick to the core fonts.
